Give the try-on a place in the week
A parcel arriving is not the same as a purchase being settled. Set aside a short period to try the garment while you can still make a decision. Read the retailer's current return instructions when it arrives, including any conditions about tags, packaging and the item's condition. Do not assume every shop handles returns in the same way.
Keep the packaging together until you know what you are doing. Place any paperwork and spare pieces somewhere you can find them. If the item needs to stay unworn for a return, a careful indoor try-on is different from taking it out for a day to see what happens. Follow the seller's conditions rather than making your own interpretation.
Bring the rest of the outfit
Try the garment with clothes you actually intend to wear beside it. A new pair of trousers needs the relevant shoes; a jacket needs its usual underlayer. Check sitting and reaching as well as standing. Look at the fit in ordinary light and notice whether you are repeatedly pulling something into place.
Give yourself two or three combinations, not an entire afternoon of inventing reasons to keep it. If the item fills a clear purpose, the decision can be straightforward. If it requires new shoes, another top and a different bag, the purchase may be the beginning of a larger commitment than you intended.
Pay attention to your first reservations. An itchy edge, awkward fastening or pocket that sits badly can become more irritating through a normal day. At the same time, distinguish unfamiliarity from discomfort. A new shape may simply look different from what you are used to. A photograph taken without a posed stance can help you judge that difference later.
Close the decision
Choose a date before the return deadline to decide. Leave enough time for whatever process the retailer requires, including posting or arranging a collection. Put a return back in its packaging once you have decided; leaving it folded on a chair keeps the decision feeling unfinished.
If you keep it, put it into the wardrobe with a known outfit rather than preserving it as something too new to use. Keep the care information accessible. The purchase starts earning its place when it joins your actual week, not when it remains in the parcel waiting for a better occasion.
